Dwolla has an opening for a Legal Counsel to join our team in Des Moines. This role will have the responsibility to provide sound legal and business advice concerning Dwolla’s commercial operations, product development, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
This role will have a special focus on supporting Dwolla’s sales and customer success teams, providing timely and solutions-oriented guidance that meets the needs of internal and external customers. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, adaptable self-starter who thrives in an open, inclusive, and fast-paced environment.
Work closely with Sales representatives to draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements.
Develop contract templates, contracting guidelines, and scalable contract processes.
Work closely with Risk & Compliance team to develop and implement commercial risk review processes.
Provide guidance regarding Dwolla requirements throughout customer onboarding process and lifecycle, refine customer onboarding reference materials, and implement scalable processes.
Monitor and drive compliance with Dwolla’s company policies and regulatory requirements.
When needed, provide backup and support for legal services rendered for other Dwolla divisions, including Marketing, Product, Engineering, Finance, and HR.
Create and deliver ongoing legal and compliance training to internal teams.
Perform legal research and remain up-to-date on relevant laws and regulations.
Help drive Legal team initiatives, including launching and maturing internal processes.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
JD admitted to practice in Iowa, eligible to be admitted without examination under Rule 31.12, or eligible to register as Iowa House Counsel under Rule 31.16.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant law firm and/or in-house experience.
Significant experience with contract drafting, review, and negotiation is required.
Ideal candidate will have experience with drafting and negotiating SaaS contracts, as well as substantive knowledge regarding the laws and rules governing the financial services industry.
Prior experience in the payments industry and/or e-commerce is very desirable.
Expertise in IP and/or privacy law is a plus.
