The entrepreneurial events series 1 Million Cups (1MC)—a national program where startup founders deliver pitches to an audience with the intent to educate, network and receive feedback—has expanded into Ames.
The expansion makes Ames the sixth location in Iowa with regular One Million Cups programming.
We have a group in Ames called Startup Ames and we have been doing events twice a month with a very similar format to One Million Cups,” said Diana Wright, one of the organizers of 1MC Ames. “We’ve been doing that for around two years and Ben McDougal, who is now the One Million Cups Midwest Representative, encouraged our group to think about starting an Ames chapter. So we have been mulling that over for the last six months or so.”
In addition to the traditional One Million Cups format, 1MC Ames will also rotate through other formats as well. Some of these will include panel discussions on specific topics and fireside chats with owners of already established businesses that are innovating in a new way.
“We’re doing that to try to involve more people in our community and not just focus on startups, but also established in their business and their industry,” Wright said.
The inaugural 1 Million Cups Ames kickoff will take place on February 6. Networking will start at 7:30 a.m., followed by a presentation and Q&A session with Magic Tee.
