For the third year in a row, IGDA Des Moines, a local chapter of the International Game Developers Association, is hosting a jam site in Des Moines as part of Global Game Jam.
Global Game Jam is the world’s largest game jam event, taking place all around the world at over 860 physical locations in over 113 countries. This year’s location for IGDA will be Gravitate Coworking Downtown. The jam will take place from Jan 31 – Feb 2.
Last year, IGDA Des Moines had nearly 30 participants created more than 10 games as part of the Global Game Jam.

Venture School now taking applications for spring
Applications are now open for Venture School this spring.
Venture School is a seven-week training program through the University of Iowa that teaches startups how to focus on real-world experimentation, customer discovery, and Lean LaunchPad methodologies. The program uses the official National Science Foundation I-Corps curriculum to help high-potential startups turn their ideas into reality.
Beginning in February, Venture School will take place in five different locations—Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, Mason City and the Quad Cities.
Those in Des Moines interested in learning more about the program can learn more by attending one of two informational sessions:
- January 28, 12 pm, Gravitate Valley Junction
- January 28, 5 pm, Gravitate downtown Des Moines
The deadline to apply is January 31.
CYstarters now accepting applications
Applications are now open for the 2020 cohort of Iowa State University’s CYstarters program.
CYstarters is an 11-week summer accelerator for Iowa State students or recent graduates to focus on their startup or business idea. Students will receive $6,500 for individual or up to $13,000 per student team for the opportunity to spend their summer dedicated to achieving their startup goals and pursuing entrepreneurial aspirations.
Applications will be accepted until March 2, 2020. All decisions will be announced no later than April 13.
